Yes and no. There’s a difference between Yowie Multi Node and Yowie Single Node Appliances. Multi node appliances do scale up and you can add up to 99 nodes within a single namespace. Our single node appliances have been built to bring all the benefits of object storage and the highest security levels for the best possible protection of valuable company data to remote, branch or home offices at a very competitive cost. Yowie single node appliances have not been designed to scale out which is a very reasonable trade-off. Local capacity can still be expanded by adding another appliance in a second namespace; however, your software applications must be able to address two name spaces at the same.

Erasure coding is one method to protect data on a storage system and prevent loss in case of a disaster or system failure. Erasure coding breaks data into fragments, encodes these fragments, stores the encoded data fragments on storage nodes and then spreads the data across different disks within the nodes. If one or more fragments are lost or damaged, erasure coding works in a way that the other fragments are good enough to put the data back together. All Yowie Multi Node Appliances allow 3+2 erasure coding which does not only protect your most valuable asset against loss even if multiple disks fail or 2 nodes fail. Erasure coding also provides better disk efficiency by using less space to store the data in a very redundant way.

We strongly recommend the standard hardware support package although it’s most likely never needed. If you report a problem we’ll start with diagnosis within 4 hours after ticket opening within our service hours.
